Who can benefit from sedation?
Sedation is useful for anyone who wants to be relaxed during their dental visit, be it that they have some anxiety or they have extensive work to be completed. Children and people with Special Needs also benefit, as they are sometimes uncooperative or unable to follow instructions. Once the patient is sedated, the dentist can then complete their work safely and efficiently, making it a pleasant experience for everyone.
Is sedation safe?
The sedation is provided by a highly trained and licensed anesthesiologist who will closely monitor the patient throughout the procedure. Medications given are the same as those used in hospitals and are administered as intended. To enhance safety, the patient's vitals such as heart rate, heart rhythm, blood pressure, breathing, and oxygen level are continuously checked with modern equipment and maintained at a normal level during the appointment.
What should I do the day of my appointment?
It is important that you are in good health before your procedure, without any fever, runny nose, or cough. On the day of, do not eat anything, but water is allowed up to 3 hours before your appointment. Take your medications as usual unless instructed otherwise by the anesthesiologist or your physician. A responsible and trusted adult is required to escort you home after your procedure is over.

What can I expect after my procedure is finished?
Most people are sleepy after sedation but will perk up after eating a light meal and drinking fluids. It is best to rest and limit activity for the remainder of the day. Specific after-procedure and home-care instructions will be given by your dentist and anesthesiologist.
